Words

"To move people with words
it is essential to be true and cutting.
If your words are not true and to the point,
the reaction they evoke will be shallow--
who would take them to heart?"

"If a tree falls in the forest...

...and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Confucious asks... or Paul Bunyan ponders... or--who came up with that question, anyway?

By the same token--if a writer isn't really, well--writing, at the moment--are they really a writer?

What defines the term "writer?" When anyone asks what I do, that's what I tell them. "A freelance writer," I say. Truth be told, it's been a while since I was actually paid for anything I wrote. Everything I've done since then has been purely for my own amusement.

Truthfully, I ran out of time for paid writing. I had classes and a home to take care of. Now that I'm done with the classes, I'm a full-time ("homemaker" and "housewife" sound so 1950's-Donna Reed that I can't bear to let the words pass my lips--or fingertips)--well, I take care of my family full time. And volunteer as a literacy tutor. I really enjoy both.

But it would be nice to work some writing into the mix--writing that other people will actually read. A blog's a good start--to, if nothing else, get the ideas and words flowing more freely.
